My journey began in construction as a teenager, working alongside my dad on residential projects. From there, I dived into the world of log cabin kits, hand-scribed log homes, and also some commercial construction. Over the years, I’ve built with everything from steel studs to straw bales, cob, and hand-hewn timbers. Whether raising timber frames or shaping natural materials into sustainable structures, I’ve always been fascinated by the art and science of building.
I grew up in rural Minnesota, where food scarcity was a familiar challenge for many families. Watching how resourcefulness and hard work could make a difference in people’s lives left a lasting impression on me. My passion for permaculture grew from these roots, fueled by memories of picking berries and canning salsa with my mom. I believe that the means to tackle food insecurity often lie close to home, and I’m dedicated to helping people learn how to transform their land into thriving, sustainable sources of nourishment.
My background includes a BS in Visualization from MCAD, where I honed my skills in bringing ideas to life—turning concepts into tangible, practical designs. I’ve worked with organizations like Happy Dancing Turtle, teaching eco-friendly building techniques, and RREAL, where I helped design solar hot air collectors that reduce heating costs for low-income households. These experiences solidified my commitment to sustainability and education as the cornerstones of my work.
Currently, I’m completing my Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC), which will add even more depth to my work in eco-design and natural building. Through Uppfinna, I aim to empower people to create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful—whether it’s a straw bale retreat, a cob pizza oven, or a lush permaculture garden.
My approach is rooted in creativity, collaboration, and a touch of humor—because learning to live sustainably should feel as joyful as it is rewarding. If you’re interested in eco-friendly building, permaculture education, and celebrating natural living, let’s connect. Together, we can create something truly extraordinary.
